About Obedience TrialsCompetitive
Obedience is a sport involving both handler and dog working together where they must complete a defined set of exercises. The
dog is evaluated and scored by a judge. All dogs receiving a passing score earn a leg toward a title and can win
ribbons or prizes based on the score. Upon completion of the required number of legs required for a specific titile,
the AKC will issue a title to the dog. The types of titles include: - Companion Dog (CD) - Novice Class
- Companion Dog Excellent (CDX)
- Open Class
- Utility Dog (UD) - Utility Class
- Utility Dog Excellent (UDX) - based on a specific score from open and utility classes held in the same
day
- Obedience Trial Chamption (OTCh) - based on a perfect score competing
in open and utility classes
